Bio: Carolyn Wendover
Carolyn Wendover I have always enjoyed math and problem solving (used to do calculus problems in college for fun), and a friend of mine in college talked me into taking a computer programming class. So instead of being a geo-physicist I double majored and also picked up a degree in computers. The Air Force paid for college and did not want a geologist so I worked for them for 7 years as a programmer (mostly Fortran), got to work on neat things, travel fun places, and end up with an impressive resume. By the end of that time I was hooked on programming. That job may have saved my life. Being a young and stupid programmer/geologist I already had plans to go backpacking up Mount St. Helens to see what an awakening volcano looked like. I was sent on a business trip instead and I got back the day after it blew!

I eventually settled in Omaha and started working for McCallie Associates, Inc. It is a company that works on both government and commercial custom applications. I first worked with Paradox back in 1989 when we needed a database for an aircraft flight planning system. The application was written in C and Borland had this great product called the Borland Database Engine that allowed us to make C calls to database functions!

I started to work with Paradox for DOS after that, but before long Paradox for Windows 1.0 was released and we started developing an application for the state Probation office 2 weeks after Paradox 1.0 was publicly released. That application is still in use throughout Nebraska (using most of the original code) and we hope to roll out a web based version later this year.

Over the years I have used Paradox to create a variety of applications ranging from order handling for cement trucks to cancer tracking systems. I am always amazed at the new things I continue to learn I can do with Paradox, and better ways of doing old things. I plan to continue to use Paradox as long as it continues to exist.

When I am not glued to a PC I enjoy gardening (vegetables and fruit trees), fishing, and camping with the family (husband, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 rats, and a parakeet (rats and parakeet stay home!)).
