Steve Caple I first saw Paradox in 1985 when a guy named Rick Albers came to demo Ansa's new 1.1 release to the Sacramento PC Users Group. The feeling was like going from WordStar to WordPerfect 3.0, a sense of freedom and power. I was hooked; I bought version 2 as soon as it came out, and haven't looked back since.
Along the way I learned about this thing called Compuserve and the Paradox forum where people seemed to live out the old American "barn raising" tradition. By 1990 I was asked to join Team Borland, and eventually became a member of C_Tech after Corel took over Paradox development. In 1991 I was president of the Sacramento Paradox Users Roundtable when the "Paradox Informant", the newsletter we'd started in August, 1990, went commercial.
The feeling of community in the Paradox online forum was a reminder of the early days of user groups, when it seemed like everyone's favorite activity was helping someone else learn. I'm glad that feeling has not only not gone away, but seems to be growing even stronger.
I live in Sacramento, California with my wife Polly. We like to read almost anything, watch Coen Brothers movies, cook, and travel (the photo's from the Canstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart).
